American Cocker Spaniels have the much sort after qualities of being loyal, affectionate and fun. This classic show dog loves to please, so if you put effort into training, you’ll gain a cheerful and gentle companion who will be by your side through thick and thin. There is no better friend!

Of course, that’s not to say this breed (or any for that matter) is perfect. This beautiful mid-sized dog can have its share of sensitivities and needs a family who will welcome her constant presence as loneliness is not her thing. Despite the spaniel’s hunting origins, this is not an outdoor dog.  The American Cocker Spaniel is a companion first and needs your company as much as you might need hers. And while she’s a little too big to be a lap dog, she’ll give it a good shot given half a chance.

Did we mention training? Cocker’s have a pretty big bark for a medium-sized dog, so it’s essential to train them from an early age and let them know when it’s inappropriate to bark. They respond best to positive reinforcement and gentle discipline. In such an environment, they can positively shine! This dog has a super sweet temperament that becomes even sweeter with age, so you’ve got a lot to look forward to.

Originally bred as hunting dogs, these beauties often retain some of their hunting instincts, so don’t leave them unsupervised around cute white fluffy things and be sure to lock the door of the chook shed! If you’re into show dogs, then this beautiful creature will love the limelight! They are in their element with lots of loving human attention and will give it back tenfold.
